The outdoors are a treat to enjoy in Alberta, and one hiking trail nestled in a national park has been named one of the best in the world.

The list of 10 places published by the U.K.-based media and hospitality magazine Time Out has named a spot in Jasper National Park as one of the best hiking trails on the planet.

Coming in ninth place, the Bald Hills Trail in Jasper National Park is a 15-kilometre roundtrip hike that offers dazzling views of nearby Maligne Lake.

In addition to the lush forest and chance to see some wildlife during the hike, the Bald Hills Trail is also a somewhat short one to tackle, running hikers anywhere between four to six hours to complete. It does have a 500-metre elevation gain, so be sure to take plenty of breaks and enjoy the views.

The publisher also mentioned that the best time to visit the Bald Hills Trail is between June and September, when much of the trail has seen its snowpack dissipate and before the flurries start to fly for the next winter season.

Other spots to make the list include the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, Peru, and the Kalalau Trail in Hawaii.

Jasper National Park is no stranger to being bestowed some honours, with National Geographic giving it a big shoutout earlier this year, while New York-based travel magazine Travel + Leisure tapped the park as one of the most beautiful places in Canada.
