It’s official, folks! KDays is in full swing, and we’ve set out on a mission to try some of the best and most outrageous eats from this annual festival.
From July 17 to 26, you’ll be able to try loads of foods and drinks in KDays’ Foodie Fairway. At Dished, we’re here to do some tried and true taste-tests ourselves to see what’s the best, what’s the worst, and what is just insane enough to be a good flavour combo. You might be surprised by some of our answers.
With the carnival just starting, you’ll have ample time to try these dishes out for yourself and see how your own rating compares. That’s for another time, though, so let’s jump into what we thought of all the new food featured this year.
Salmon Taco – Taco Nori

Alyssa Gallardo/Dished
This was easily the best thing we had all day, what a way to begin.
With fresh salmon and vegetables, a mayo-like sauce melding all the flavours together, not to mention a crunchy tempura shell to wrap everything up? This is nothing short of delicious. If you end up getting hungry at KDays (which is inevitable), this is definitely something you should keep in mind.

Deep Fried Cheese Curds – The Meltdown

Alyssa Gallardo/Dished
Deep-fried fair food is always a classic, so of course, we had to put it to the test. Although the blaring heat definitely didn’t go in this eat’s favour.
While the cheese was gooey and delicious, the seasoning could use a little work, or even just a shake more. Despite this, we still found ourselves snacking on these bites while we walked around, which makes it the perfect food to take on the go.
Something worth mentioning, though, is the crunch from the deep fry. They really perfected the time they have these bits cooking, because they came into our hands in excellent shape with an even better texture.

Strawberry Cheese Cloud Bubble Tea – Gen Tea

Alyssa Gallardo/Dished
We finally headed into drink territory and decided to try one of Gen Tea’s bubble tea flavours.
This seemed to be the best choice, with the drink tasting like ice cream alongside a perfumy berry taste. It provided the perfect amount of cold, refreshing energy that we needed for the day ahead of us. Though you might be better off getting boba from off the fair ground, because the price is definitely steep compared to local shops.

Original Lemonade – Family Squeezed Lemonades

Alyssa Gallardo/Dished
$12 for a lemonade is outrageous, but it’s the carnival, so it’s essentially the law to get one.
This lemonade, though, was extremely, extremely sweet. We’re talking particles of sugar going up the straw, sweet. Also, it didn’t seem to have enough lemon flavour to give it that signature lemonade tang. It did, however, help us get some energy back into us before we conquered the rest of the festival, so we can’t knock it too hard.

Dragons Breath – Dragons Breath

Alyssa Gallardo/Dished
We’ve seen this cool treat around on social media for ages, so we decided to give it a try this time. Trust us when we tell you: it looks better than it tastes.
The experience is definitely worth the money, because it is fun to eat cereal dipped in liquid nitrogen and blow the mist out of your mouth or nose. However, once you put that cereal on top of ice cream? It doesn’t really give the ice cream the best texture; in fact, it makes it a little difficult to eat.
While it was fun for the first couple of seconds, we quickly realized how hard it was to even get a spoon into the ice cream.
