We got a sneak peek at West Edmonton Mall's newest roller coaster

A massive new roller coaster is taking shape inside West Edmonton Mall’s Galaxyland, and we got a sneak peek at what’s in store.

The new ride is being built in the former home of the Mindbender, which operated at the mall for decades before being decommissioned in early 2023.

Expected to open in Spring 2027, this new ride will actually offer two different ride experiences in one.

Here’s what you can expect to see:

There are two modes: Core and Quantum, depending on how big of a thrill you’re after.

Core mode — or family mode as park officials also call it — takes riders down the green track before returning to the platform.

Then there’s Quantum mode, which launches riders through the bigger elements of the coaster, including a massive loop, inversions, and a higher speed.

Devin Carradin, Galaxyland and admissions manager, told us that there are about seven features on the coaster in total, including two loops, a barrel roll, and a “bunny hop,” among several other elements.

The queue will be split into two lines for each mode. Both will launch from the same platform, alternating between the two depending on demand.

Fitting in with the Hasbro theming already across Galaxyland, the coaster will be NERF-themed, with its official name expected to be announced in the coming months.

Dutch amusement ride manufacturer Vekoma is building the coaster. Carradin believes the dual-mode design is a first of its kind.

“We hope it exceeds expectations. Roller coaster technology has come a long way, and the next generation of kids will have their own version of the Mindbender,” Carradin said.

Exact details, including the coaster’s height and top speed, haven’t yet been released, as construction is still underway.

So we’ll just have to wait for next spring to see this massive new ride in action.
