A $65M field house in the works near Edmonton just cleared a huge hurdle

A massive new indoor field house in the works east of Edmonton just marked a major milestone, with Strathcona County council approving funding for the $65 million project.
Last October, we reported that Strathcona County had approved an indoor fieldhouse to be built east of Broadmoor Boulevard on Buckingham Drive in Sherwood Park.
Now, a major hurdle toward getting shovels on the ground has been cleared, as council approved a bylaw last week authorizing borrowing to finance the design and construction of the field house.

Of the estimated $65 million it’s expected to cost, $30 million will come from municipal reserves, while the remaining $35 million will be covered through the approved borrowing.
The field house will be centrally located, close to Millennium Place, Bethel Transit Terminal, and Emerald Hills Leisure Centre in Sherwood Park.

Amenities expected for the field house include a mix of turf and court space, which can be used for racket sports like tennis, badminton, pickleball, and field sports like soccer and football.

Construction is expected to begin in 2026.
We’re so excited to see this project moving forward, and with sports like soccer and pickleball only picking up in popularity, there’s no doubt this facility will be a popular spot during the colder months!
