Ex-Edmonton Oilers player Jack Roslovic thriving with Maple Leafs

Jack Roslovic is off to a red-hot start with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The former Edmonton Oilers forward opted to leave the Alberta capital in free agency this past summer, inking a two-year, $8 million deal with the Leafs. Roslovic was coming off a decent season with the Oilers, notching 21 goals and 36 points in 69 games, but he was doing so on a bargain contract that carried just a $1.5 million cap hit.

As free agency came around, it seemed like the Oilers were not interested in giving Roslovic the raise he was looking for. He parlayed his productive season and more than doubled his cap hit with the Leafs.

That seems to have been the right call, as Roslovic now has eight goals and 18 points in his first 17 games in Toronto.

His goals and points totals rank third among Maple Leafs players, behind only William Nylander and Auston Matthews. Roslovic is currently on pace to score 40 goals and 89 points this season, which would smash his previous career highs.

Not only has he been a productive member of the Leafs, but he’s also been put in a position to succeed by head coach Jim Hiller. Roslovic has been a staple within Toronto’s top-six, playing on a line with Matthews for most of the season.

Edmonton got a good look at how well he’s fit on that line, as he scored a goal against the Oilers in his return to Rogers Place last month.

Seeing Roslovic on a top line shouldn’t have been too surprising for Oilers fans, as the Ohio native did spend a lot of time in Edmonton’s top-six next to either Connor McDavid or Leon Draisaitl. While he was productive in the regular season for the Oilers, there is concern about his ability to produce in the playoffs.

Roslovic notched just one assist in six postseason games with Edmonton last year and four points in nine postseason games with the Carolina Hurricanes in 2025.

He’ll need to help the Maple Leafs qualify for the playoffs first before he can prove his doubters wrong in that department.
