Everything we know about rumoured Edmonton Oilers third jersey

The Edmonton Oilers are rumoured to be debuting a new third jersey next season, but what do we know about it?

There hasn’t been a peep about the new uniform from the Oilers organization this summer, but some details have popped up in the media. The most plugged-in Oilers jersey hound seems to be Edmonton Sports Talk‘s Tom Gazzola, who has been the sole media member to share any information surrounding the new threads.

Edmonton has been operating without a third jersey for the last two seasons, dropping the navy/orange Adidas look once Fanatics took over as the league’s jersey manufacturer. Since then, the Oilers have been rocking their classic set inspired by their original 1980s dynasty look.

They did wear a special jersey for select games in 2023-24 after playing in the Heritage Classic, but it was promptly retired after just one year.

So, what do we know about this rumoured Oilers jersey? Let’s take a look…

What will it look like?

If you were hoping to stumble across a leaked photo of the rumoured Oilers uniform, you’ll be disappointed.

As mentioned, the organization has been extremely tight-lipped about the new jersey, with no single mention of its existence so far this offseason. That doesn’t mean we have been left with no details whatsoever of what it will look like.

Gazzola revealed some interesting details on the third jersey on a Jan. 31 episode of The Oil Stream. In that episode, the Oilers reporter revealed that the jersey will feature the traditional Oilers colours of orange, blue, and white, and it will not feature an oil drop, meaning Edmonton’s iconic logo will be absent.

He kept things cryptic, but seemed to allude that the base jersey colour will be white and that it may feature an Oilers wordmark as the main crest.

“I’ve seen it, I’ve seen the whole uniform,” Gazzola said. “This is the traditional colours, but a whole new look.”

It appears that this will be a brand-new design for the Oilers, meaning those pining for a return of the 1990s copper and blue look will have to wait a bit longer.

When will it be revealed?

Training camp is set to open in about a month or so, meaning we will likely see some sort of team reveal sooner rather than later.

There was some speculation that they may have done something at the most recent NHL draft, but that didn’t come to fruition. You’d think that they would want to give fans a look at what the new uniform will look like and have it on sale in time for the start of the regular season on Oct. 8.

We will have to wait and see when the team decides to show it off.

What do the players think?

While Gazzola said that he thinks the majority of Oilers fans will be impressed with the new design, he also added that Edmonton superstars Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl got a look at the fresh threads as well.

There were rumours that those two helped influence the Oilers to go back to their classic look a few years ago, and, according to Gazzola, they liked what they saw with this new alternate design.

This also isn’t the first time McDavid and Draisaitl have voiced uniform opinions.

“It got the blessing from the big boys,” Gazzola said. “They care about that stuff, that’s why the reverse retro with the orange pants didn’t go over too well, they didn’t like the orange pants.”

If those two liked what they saw, then you have to think that Oilers fans will follow suit.
