A name very familiar to Edmonton Oilers fans will be headed down south to join Ken Holland with the LA Kings.
Holland, who served as the Oilers GM from the 2019-20 campaign through 2023-24, departed the organization after their first Stanley Cup loss to the Florida Panthers. He was recently hired to be the GM of the Kings following the firing of Rob Blake, and as such has quickly begun putting his staff in place.
One recent move Holland made was bringing in Tyler Wright, who worked under Holland for years in Edmonton as the Oilers head of scouting. The Oilers and Wright chose to mutually part ways after the 2022-23 campaign, and not much has been heard about him since. That’s not the case anymore, however, as he is now with the Kings as the director of player personnel.

Wright’s tenure with the Oilers was rather questionable. While he was able to land some very good prospects, such as Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg, he whiffed on many other selections over the years. His drafting in prior stints with the Detroit Red Wings and Columbus Blue Jackets was less than stellar, as well, though he did have a few gems in Detroit, including Dylan Larkin and Moritz Seider.
This will mark the third time Holland and Wright have paired up at the NHL level, and while it could wind up working out in the Kings’ favour, the past track record suggests that things may not go the way the fan base in LA is hoping for.
