Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for the City of Edmonton, Sherwood Park, and St. Albert.

In the special alert, given at 4:25 am on January 20, the national weather agency stated that “strong winds that may cause damage are expected or occurring.

Strong winds, with gusts near 90 km/h, will continue today.

Damage to buildings, such as roof shingles and windows, may occur. “High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break,” the agency added.

Recorded wind speeds at the Edmonton International Airport reached as high as 107 km/h. There were multiple power outages across the city, caused by fallen trees and power lines.

“Winds will weaken early this evening,” stated Environment Canada.
