Alberta reported 456 new COVID-19 infections Tuesday, a steady number in line with figures this week.

But testing numbers are down, leading Dr. Deena Hinshaw to urge those experiencing symptoms to get a COVID-19 test to ensure all infections are counted.

There were also 17 new deaths in the past 24 hours, bringing Alberta’s death toll to 1,463.

The province relaxed outdoor gathering restrictions and allowed personal care services to reopen on Monday, but Hinshaw said she needs to see more encouraging numbers before she’ll agree to lift more restrictions.

“We all must continue supporting each other by doing everything possible to reduce the spread of COVID-19,” she said.

There have now been 12 cases of the UK COVID-19 variant and two cases of the South African variant discovered in Alberta Hinshaw said there’s no evidence yet of community transmission, since all the cases turned up while people returned from travel were in quarantine.
