Here's how Alberta's 524,381 COVID-19 cases break down by region

It has been nearly two years since the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a pandemic, and Alberta continues to deal with a significant number of coronavirus cases.

Since the start of the pandemic, Alberta has seen 524,381 confirmed cases, according to new numbers from the province.

Of these cases, 10,112 are active infections.

Calgary currently leads the province in active infections. Alberta’s largest city has 3,371 active cases and 211,535 total detected infections.

Edmonton has 2,859 active infections and has counted 167,690 cases over the course of the pandemic.

The North zone has 1,428 active cases, the Central zone has 1,371, and the South zone is reporting 1,032. There are also 51 active infections where health authorities don’t know which respective zones the patients live in.

A total of 1,295 people are in hospital with the virus, including 88 who are in intensive care.

At the time of writing, 3,898 people have died in Alberta due to the virus, while 510,371 individuals have recovered so far.
