Former Montreal high-schooler Kamala Harris will be sworn into the White House on Wednesday as the first Black and South Asian woman vice president.
Harris and President-elect Joe Biden will be sworn into office at 12 pm ET.
Harris lived in Quebec during the 1970s and ’80s while attending Westmount High School. During that time, her mother, Shyamala, was a professor at McGill University.

Today’s inauguration will feature an increase in security due to the invasion of Washington’s Capitol earlier this month and limited crowd capacity due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Following Harris and Biden’s win in the November election, Harris’ former school, Westmount High and Quebec politicians, including Premier François Legault and Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante, wished the former Montrealer congratulations.

On Wednesday morning, Westmount High School shared a video featuring current students and faculty revealing what it means to have an alumna inaugurated into the White House.
Harris graduated from Westmount High School in 1981.
