Edmonton's Valley Line Southeast LRT is finally opening next week

Edmonton’s Valley Line Southeast LRT is finally ready to open after a series of delays set the project back on its initial timeline.
The City of Edmonton has announced that the new LRT line will open for passenger service on Saturday, November 4, with service beginning at 5:15 am at the Mill Woods stop and 102 Street stop downtown.
āI know many Edmontonians have been looking forward to opening day for the better part of two decades. Valley Line Southeast will offer an affordable and climate-friendly choice to move around our city for decades to come,ā said Mayor Amarjeet Sohi.
āIām looking forward to riding the new line and seeing this project cross the finish line.ā
In early September, TransEd announced the line would open “sometime in the fall” after weeks of testing and certification by independent bodies.
āThis has been a long journey, with challenges and detours, but weāre confident in the system weāve built. Our focus has always been, and will continue to be, delivering a safe, reliable system to Edmontonians,ā said TransEd Partners CEO Ronald Joncas. āWeāre excited to welcome passengers onboard these brand new trains.ā
The Valley Line Southeast will have the same hours of operation as the Capital and Metro Lines.
As opening day approaches, the City is reminding Edmontonians to be mindful of their surroundings and obey all traffic signs and signals.
The 14-kilometre line was initially scheduled to open in 2018 and was rescheduled to December 2020. It was then pushed back to 2021, then 2022, when the opening date was set back again due to cracks found in multiple concrete beams along the line.
