It looks like Roby Jarventie’s time with the Edmonton Oilers organization isn’t done after all.
Nearly a month ago, it was reported that Jarventie had signed in Finland for the 2025-26 season, indicating that his time with the Oilers had come to an end. This morning, however, they announced that they had re-signed the 22-year-old to a one-year, two-way deal with an AAV of $775,000.
The Oilers acquired the Finnish winger last summer in a deal that saw them send former first-round pick Xavier Bourgault to the Ottawa Senators. Jarventie’s first season with the Oilers organization didn’t go as planned, as injuries limited him to just two games with the Bakersfield Condors.
Injuries have been a common theme for Jarventie throughout his professional career, though he has shown an ability to produce offence at the AHL level when healthy. In 22 games in the 2023-24 season with the Belleville Senators, he recorded nine goals and 20 points. He was also able to suit up for seven games at the NHL level that very same season, recording one assist along with four penalty minutes.
Given how much time he missed in 2024-25, Jarventie is almost guaranteed to begin the 2025-26 campaign in the AHL. That said, if he can remain healthy and produce like he has in past years, there may be an opportunity for him to get a look with the Oilers at some point later in the season.
At the very least, this signing gives the Oilers more organizational depth and helps keep an intriguing prospect in the fold. That is big news in itself, as they don’t have a ton of prospects in the pipeline at this time.
