It’s already that time of the year again ā€” the first snowfall in Edmonton, when the ground freezes, the sun sets before dinnertime, and nearly everybody forgets how to drive.

Just over a week until Halloween, Edmontonians woke up to a familiar but unwelcome sight as snow continued to fall upon the city.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), our first snowfall of the season is expected to last throughout the day, followed by a week of temperatures of highs below zero. If you thought that we might get a bit more out of the balmy fall weather we’ve had so far, that has quickly come to an end.

It could get so chilly later this week, in fact, that the windchill on some mornings could feel closer to a disturbing -20Ā°C.

Naturally, Edmontonians are not pleased to see a dumping of the white stuff before October ends. Drivers making their way to work this morning were told to use caution on the roads.

And for good reason.

While Edmonton is expected to get just a dusting of snow today, it’s a different story for our neighbours to the south in Calgary. ECCC issued a snowfall warning for much of southern and central Alberta, saying that a whopping 10 to 15 cm is expected to fall on the region.
