Flood damage closes Edmonton Italian restaurant for 'foreseeable future'
Bella, a self-described Italian(ish) restaurant in the heart of Old Strathcona, says it will be closed for the “foreseeable future” due to extensive flood damage.
What was initially expected to be a temporary closure to address damage in the main restaurant and its private dining room will now last longer than anticipated, as the space requires more extensive restoration than originally planned.
“We have sustained severe damage,” the restaurant stated on social media. “We are working with our contractors to restore the space to usable ASAP.”
Bella, from owner and chef Riley Aitken, formerly of Smokey Bear, opened at its 104th Street location in 2023.
The restaurant is bright and modern, serving fresh, handmade pasta alongside family-style vegetable and meat dishes, complemented by a fabulous wine selection courtesy of beverage director Nico Larson.
Some of our highlights include the restaurant’s comparatively accessible tasting menu, which offers diners the chance to try a little bit of everything, as well as its ravioli and fresh, inventive salads.
The restaurant says it will provide an updated timeline once it knows more.

It’s been a brutal summer weather-wise, with Edmonton breaking an all-time rainfall record and businesses and festivals across the city taking a hit.
Ice cream shop Drty Ice Cream closed its downtown pop-up earlier this summer, citing poor weather as one of the factors behind the closure. Edmonton fitness studio Strong Pilates was also forced to close just hours after its initial opening due to flood damage sustained during a storm.
With all that being said, we look forward to seeing Bella reopen its doors. We’ll be sure to keep you posted once we hear more about a reopening date.
