A popular winter event that has captivated Banff over the past years has announced it will not be returning for the 2027 season.

After launching in Banff in 2020, Skijor Canada announced that skijoring would no longer be a part of Banff SnowDays.

“After careful consideration, Banff and Lake Louise Tourism’s Board of Directors made the difficult decision that Banff will no longer serve as the host location for our skijoring event. We are incredibly grateful for the support, enthusiasm and passion shown over the years,” the Facebook post stated.

Skijoring is a ski event in which winter athletes are pulled by animals (typically horses or dogs) or a motor vehicle around a snowy course, often featuring jumps and other obstacles.

The event quickly became a bucket list item to see over the winter in Banff, bringing with it a swell of visitors at times to the townsite.

As for where skijoring may end up next, a 2027 location has yet to be announced, but it is promised to be revealed in the future.

Earlier this year, a new music festival set to debut in Banff also called things off.
