Two Alberta golf courses ranked in top 10 best in Canada
A trip to the greens is always a treat, and if you make the drive out to the Alberta Rockies, you can also hit up two of the best golf courses in Canada.
Golf Digest has released its 2026 Best Golf Courses in Canada list, and coming in as the best in Alberta was the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge Golf Course, landing at #3.
The course opened in 1925 and underwent a restoration project in 1994 to return the legendary Canadian golf course to its initial layout, using original 1924 blueprints from Stanley Thompson, Canada’s master golf course architect.
The 18-hole layout offers elevated tee boxes, dramatic bunkering, and holes aligned with distant mountain vistas.

If you are looking to book a tee time at the JPL golf course, the daily green fee from opening until May 29 to Sept. 30 is $280 per person, and $200 from Oct. 1 to 4 and 9 to 11.
Residents of Alberta catch a bit of a financial break, as it costs $220 per person from opening until Sept. 30, and $160 from Oct. 1 until closing.
The second Alberta course to crack the top 10 for all of Canada was the Fairmont Banff Springs Golf Course, landing at #9.

“Where No. 77 Old Head in Ireland plays along the top of escarpments, Banff in the Canadian Rockies of Alberta lies beneath escarpments, with near-vertical cliffs of Mount Rundle towering 3,000 feet over almost every fairway,” the ranking touted for the prestigious course.
“The course, another masterful design by Canadian Stanley Thompson, is tucked into the narrow Y-shaped valley formed by the Bow and Spray Rivers. Bunkering at Banff may be the best of Thompson’s career. There are 150 of them, often in circular clusters, with ebbs and flows in their shapes that mirror mountain peaks.”
The Fairmont Banff Springs Golf Course green fee rates are variable based on date and season, and can be found on its website. Alberta Resident Rates are also offered.
Cabot Cliffs in Inverness, Nova Scotia, scored the top spot.
