Edmonton is getting a new bakery that serves gourmet macarons and cakes

A new bakery is being opened by the people behind Edmonton’s favourite macarons and cakes.

Bakenary was initially founded in 2022 by Darya Naidenkova and her partner, Tarek Aboubou, who came to Canada from Dubai. With them, they brought their passion for baking and pastries, but especially macarons.

The team primarily focuses on making gourmet macarons and cakes, all of which are gluten-free and made with real fruit and chocolate.

Since 2022, the two have built a loyal following at farmers’ markets around Edmonton, like the Bountiful Farmers Market, the 124th Street Grand Market, and the Fort Edmonton Christmas Market. They even supply some of the city’s best cafes with their macarons and cakes, with Edmonton’s favourite Felice Cafe being one of them.

Now, Bakenary has signed a lease for its first storefront, scheduled for summer 2025, and is embarking on a new chapter of its journey.

The family behind Bakenary has been preparing the bakery for its highly anticipated opening.

Its storefront is located on the South Side, just north of the Mill Woods neighbourhood. The last update from Naidenkova was this August, explaining that they were putting the finishing touches on the inside, as well as the addition of a new sign and countertop.

In the meantime, you can support Bakenary and try some of its delicious treats at upcoming farmers’ markets, such as the Castle Downs Farmers Market, or even at AsiaFest in September.

Delivery and pick-up are available for its jumbo macarons, so there’s no excuse for not trying these delectable pastries.

Grab a bite of deliciousness from Bakenary, and keep an eye out for updates on its opening date for its storefront.
