Alberta just saw a one-day spike of 106 active cases of coronavirus

The Province of Alberta’s new coronavirus numbers show a significant increase in active cases over the past 24 hours.

As of Tuesday, September 22, Alberta has a total of 1,565 active infections, 106 more than it had seen on Monday.

The large increase is mostly due to a rise in active cases in Edmonton, which saw a jump of 73 over the past day.

Calgary saw its own number rise to 485, an increase of 23.

The North Zone’s active infections jumped by seven, the Central Zone’s by four, and the South Zone actually saw a decrease of four.

Three additional active cases were added for the total of cases where health authorities do not know which zone the patient lives in.

Two more people died of coronavirus over the past 24 hours as well, and only 42 new recoveries were registered — likely a factor in Tuesday’s higher-than-usual increase to active cases.

As always, Albertans are encouraged to practice safe physical distancing, wear a mask when out in public, maintain proper hand hygiene, and stay home if they are feeling sick.
