Rebecca O'Toole, Conservative leader's wife, diagnosed with coronavirus

Rebecca O’Toole has tested positive for coronavirus four days after her husband, who is the leader of Canada’s federal Conservative Party, also tested positive.

Rebecca began feeling ill on Sunday, when she spiked a fever, according to a statement from the party. She went to an assessment centre in Ottawa where she was tested, and her results came back late Monday night.

She and her husband Erin O’Toole are both isolating and keeping an eye on their two children ages nine and 14, who so far haven’t shown symptoms.

“Many Canadian families are grappling with COVID-19 like us today, and just like them, our focus is on ensuring our children stay healthy,” she said.

Erin, the leader of the Opposition, tested positive for coronavirus on Friday after learning a staffer he’d been travelling with had become ill.

The O’Toole family was initially tested all together, although Rebecca’s initial test result came back negative her subsequent test on Sunday revealed the infection. Canadian health official have said there’s a higher chance for a false negative if a person is tested before they start showing symptoms.
