Man's proposal at girlfriend's grad leaves internet divided (VIDEO)
A man’s decision to propose to his girlfriend while she was walking across the stage at graduation has divided the internet.
While some are calling the move heartwarming, others say it was a selfish decision that stole the woman’s special moment.
The video, which was originally shared on Newcastle University’s Twitter account, shows the woman walking across the stage to shake hands with a university official. The man approaches her, gets down on one knee and proceeds to pop the big question.

In the video, the audience can be heard cheering as he slips an engagement ring onto her finger.
While the woman looks a bit bewildered, the man proceeds to give her a hug, and the crowd applauds as he smiles and waves.
While engagements are supposed to be celebratory occasions, the man’s decision to propose while the woman was having her own special moment has rubbed some the wrong way.
“Taking away another’s autonomy no matter how well intended, in front of a tearful and applauding audience isn’t always a good thing,” said one Twitter user, replying to Newcastle University’s now-deleted video clip of the proposal.

“The way he made his girlfriend and her entire classā graduation about him? Feel sorry for her and also for all her classmates who had their moment outshined by one manās narcissism,” said another.

Another commenter noted how the graduation proposal looks like an “act of insecurity.”
Public proposals like this not only steal thunder from the actual event/achievement – but also look like such an act of insecurity to me. A proposal is ENOUGH when it’s between two people in a quiet moment if it’s the right person. You don’t need a show.

Others, however, thought the proposal was a sweet gesture and saw nothing wrong with the man’s decision.
I think this was super sweet and romantic. What a really special day to remember for them.
Congratulations to her great achievement and success, and congratulations and best wishes to the beautiful couple!— Annalogue75 āØ (@AnnaLogue75) July 19, 2023

This might be one of the most uplifting things I've seen on Twitter for quite some time. Good luck to the happy couple! šš½šš½š
