What would you do if someone decided to take your seat on a plane so they could sit with their kids?

That’s the question Tammy Nelson asks in her now-viral TikTok video.

Nelson, who is the CEO of a jewellery company, claims a mother took her seat without asking first, so she could be next to her children.

In the video, she says she got on the plane when she saw a woman sitting in her seat.

@myconquering Having had only 90 minutes of sleep the night before and knowing I had to give a presentation to 500 people, I desperately needed some sleep, so I did not agree to switch seats. 🤷‍♀️ Before anyone comes after me… the kids looked like they were about 11 and 15 years old. And the mom was in arms-reach of both of them from the middle seat in the row behind us. The mom proceeded to complain for at least 15 minutes to the person next to her loud enough for me to hear. But the woman actually defended me – several times. It was so kind and I appreciated it so much because I was feeling really guilty. 🤦‍♀️ ##airplaneseat##seatswitching##airplanekarens ♬ original sound – MyCONQUERing

Nelson told the woman that she had taken her assigned seat to which the woman allegedly replied, “Oh you want to sit here? I thought I could switch because these are my kids,” and pointed to the seats next to her.

Nelson told the woman that as long as she could have a window seat, she was happy to switch.

However, the woman informed Nelson that her seat was a middle seat in the row behind them.

In the video caption, Nelson said that she decided to not switch seats with the woman.

“Having had only 90 minutes of sleep the night before and knowing I had to give a presentation to 500 people, I desperately needed some sleep, so I did not agree to switch seats,” she wrote.

Social media sides with CEO

In the comment section, many came to Nelson’s defence and agreed with her decision.

“The amount of families who aren’t paying to select their seats together is mind blowing! You were 100% right to not give up your seat,” wrote one commenter.

“What kind of a person takes your seat without even asking first? That would have immediately rubbed me the wrong way,” said another.

“Lack of preparation on their part does not constitute an emergency on your part!” added another commenter.

This isn’t the first instance of a passenger refusing to give up their seat.

Last year, a woman sparked a debate after refusing to give up her first-class seat so another passenger could sit with her family.
