A relaxing time at home suddenly got a lot more thrilling for a Canadian lottery player when they heard that a major lottery prize was linked to a ticket bought in their hometown.

Richard Z. of Quesnel, B.C.,  was prompted to check his ticket for the Dec. 20, 2025 Lotto 6/49 draw.

The move paid off for Richard, who had won a $46 million Gold Ball Jackpot from his ticket.

“The ticket was only visually validated,” said Richard of the moment he discovered his windfall. “I checked the BCLC website and had an inkling I may have the winning ticket.”

“When it said it was the Gold Ball, that’s when the overwhelming feelings set in; knowing that out of everyone in Canada, I had the ticket that won $46 million.”

The Cariboo Regional District resident purchased the winning ticket at Billy Barker Casino in Quesnel.

Richard first shared the good news about his Gold Ball Jackpot with his wife.

“At first, there were tears of joy. It was overwhelming!”

The Quesnel resident added that he now has plans to travel and will “move forward slowly.”

“My wife and I want to do some travelling, and I want to see the pyramids! We want to experience and enjoy stress-free trips.”

When asked how it feels to win, Richard added that it feels great.

“We want to live the life we live now and still want to keep our lives simple.”

Another recent B.C. lottery player shared that he used a routine set of numbers as part of his regular lottery ticket purchase to great effect.

Dale N. of Langley, B.C., revealed that he had used a series of numbers that he had been playing for years for a ticket for the Sept. 30, 2026, Lotto 6/49 draw.

This sequence was combined with numbers from family birthdays. The technique worked, as Dale won a $1-million guaranteed prize from the ticket.

“It feels awesome, not because of the money, but because I can help my kids with future expenses,” he said.
