Canadian lottery winner feels closer to owning home after huge jackpot

A stop to pick up a treat from a convenience store turned into a moment to remember for a Canadian lottery player after she won a huge lottery prize.

Seble G. of Vancouver, B.C., was at a gas station to pick up some ice cream when she decided to check her lottery ticket for the Sept. 9, 2026 Lotto 6/49 draw.

The treat was soon forgotten because Seble won a cool $1 million from her ticket.

“I had to check again to confirm the win,” shared Seble about the moment that she won. “I didn’t believe it! I forgot why I was even in the store.”

The Vancouver resident, who bought the ticket from the Canco on Hot Springs Road in Agassiz, phoned her mom to tell her the good news once she double-checked her ticket on the self-scanner.

“She was happy for me,” said Seble, who added that she plans on celebrating her windfall by having dinner with her family.

When asked if she had any thoughts on how she would like to spend her Lotto 6/49 jackpot, she revealed that she wants to play for the next few years and also plan for her family.

“This also allows me to feel closer to buying a home,” she said. “It’s very unreal. I feel blessed.”

B.C. lottery players have been lucky in visits to the convenience store lately, with several life-changing wins.

Leslie M. of Port Coquitlam, B.C., discovered he had won the top prize of the $1,000,000 Ultra just outside of a shop.

“I was in the parking lot of the store, and I scratched the ticket,” said Leslie of the moment he won.

“I was so bewildered, so I decided to put [the ticket] in the [self-scanner] inside the store.”

The scanner at the Family Milk on Coast Meridian Road in Port Coquitlam soon showed Leslie that he had won the top prize.
