A lottery winner in Alberta had one of the most Canadian reasons to buy a new vehicle with her newfound windfall.

Heather Oar of Wabasca, Alta., won an electrifying $273,218.30 on Lightning Lotto in a draw last month.

Oar was at a gas station with her family waiting in the car when she saw a life-changing number flash onto the lottery display screen, telling Lotto Spot that she was shocked at the amount.

She added that she’s excited to make some upgrades with her winnings.

“I am a hockey mom,” she laughed while speaking with Lotto Spot. “So, I need a new vehicle.”

“I’m also excited to pay some bills and maybe buy a new wardrobe,” she added. “It feels awesome!”

Oar purchased her winning Lightning Lotto ticket from Riverside Convenience at 2001 Mistassiniy Rd. in Wabasca. She won her prize by matching the five Lightning Lotto numbers drawn on the June 14 draw: 8, 10, 16, 22, and 26.

Alberta has been home to a flurry of lottery winners lately, with one young man making a wise decision with his windfall, while another player got a HUGE payout after playing the lottery weekly for the past 35 years.
