A stop at a gas station and the decision to buy a lottery ticket has led one Canadian couple to a cool $100,000 win.

Branden and Nicole Fay of Caroline, Alta., say they rarely play the lottery, but the pair took a chance on a gas station stop. They purchased a Lotto Max and Extra ticket that bagged them a $100,020 Extra prize.

The pair told the Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC) that they were in disbelief when they saw the amount.

“Branden left for work, and I opened the cupboard and saw that we had forgotten to check this ticket, so I did it,” explained Nicole. “I used some pretty choice words, and then I called Branden!”

Branden added that he was in a meeting when he noticed he had 15 missed calls, causing his heart to race, thinking something had happened at home.

The duo said they are headed straight to the bank with this win.

“We are not too sure what we want to do with it yet,” Nicole said. “It will just go into savings for now.”

“It doesn’t feel real,” Branden added. “I think we are still in a bit of shock.”

The Fays purchased their winning Lotto Max and Extra ticket from Eckville Gas & Snacks at 5008 48th St. in Eckville. They won their prize by matching the last six digits in the May 9 Extra draw: 2941777.
