Lottery player's coffee "ended up on the front lawn" when he realized he won

A trade worker from Ontario started his morning with a coffee and a major lottery win.

Saying “yes” to Encore paid off for Gary O’Donnell of Caledon. He matched the last six of seven numbers in exact order in the September 29, 2023, Lotto Max draw to win $100,000!

The dad says he’s been a regular lottery player for decades.

“My favourite games are Lotto 6/49 and Lotto Max — I always say yes to Encore,” he shared while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his winnings.

The skilled trade worker was having his morning coffee when he discovered his win.

“I saw the big winner screen and thought I won $100. I took a closer look because $100 wasn’t a ‘Big Win’ and that’s when I noticed it was $100,000,” said the 57-year-old. “I started screaming with happiness — my coffee ended up on the front lawn.”

O’Donnell hopped on his bike with his ticket and headed straight to the store.

“My body was pulsing with adrenaline,” he recalled. “It was such a good moment — one I’ll remember for the rest of my life.”

He has some fun plans for his lottery windfall, including home renovations and treating himself to a fishing boat.

The father also intends to share the lottery prize with his family.

“I plan to celebrate this win by making memories on a family trip,” said O’Donnell.

He isn’t the only lottery winner with big plans for his prize.

Another winner from Ontario plans to treat herself to an air fryer and vacation.

A dad who won a whopping $5 million lottery jackpot will use the money to sponsor his kids’ hockey team.
