Two Ontario lottery players have a lot to celebrate after winning a major jackpot.

Sturgeon Falls residents Blaine Parrington and Evelyne Rainville won $2.5 million in the Lotto 6/49 Classic Jackpot on April 2, 2025. Their ticket was one of two that split the $5 million prize.

The retirees have been playing the lottery with the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) for nearly 15 years, enjoying a variety of jackpot and Instant games.

“Last September, we decided we’d play Lotto 6/49 every Wednesday for one year and see how we’d do,ā€ said Blaine.

Just six months later, Blaine and Evelyne are celebrating an incredible win and the thrill of becoming multimillionaires.

ā€œI scanned our Lotto 6/49 ticket on the store’s ticket checker and saw the ā€˜Big Winner’ message. When I asked the store clerk to validate our ticket, the lottery terminal froze. An OLG representative called and confirmed we’d won $2.5 million,ā€ Blaine recalled, while he and Evelyne visited the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to claim their windfall. ā€œI was amazed and shocked. It was a feeling that can’t be explained in words.ā€

Blaine went home to share the amazing news with Evelyne.

ā€œI was astonished,ā€ Evelyne smiled. ā€œThat afternoon, we had family over and told them about our winning ticket. Everyone was very happy for us, including our son, whom we video chatted with and sent a picture of the validation slip. It was a surreal and exceptionally overwhelming moment.ā€

Blaine says he called his daughter, but she was busy and had to call him back.

“After seeing the text message I’d sent her, she returned my call. When I answered, she was singing the Barenaked Ladies song, ā€˜If I Had $1,000,000.’ It was such a wholesome moment,” he said.

The pair has some big plans for their lottery prize. Blaine wants to buy a new boat to up his fishing game, and Evelyn wants to upgrade her car and plan a trip to see the Rocky Mountains.

ā€œWe’ll also share this prize with our children and grandchildren, complete some renovations, and make some investments for our future,ā€ the couple concluded.

The winners bought the ticket at RX Drug Mart on King Street in Sturgeon Falls.
