It’s summer, aka road trip season, and one route bursting with scenery was just named the best to take in Canada.

There are plenty of lovely roads to explore in the country over the summer months, but one passage has caught the eye of U.S. travel magazine Travel + Leisure, receiving a full profile and touted as “Canada’s most stunning summer road trip.”

The magazine looked at a road trip that spanned from Calgary to Jasper National Park, and if you’ve taken that route before, you know there is PLENTY of things to admire along the way.

The road trip profiled kicks off in Calgary, where visitors can check out Canada Olympic Park, and we would say visitors should explore some of the most historic neighbourhoods while in the city, like Inglewood. Obviously, if you are in town during the Calgary Stampede, that is also a must-do!

A stop in Banff National Park is also included on this road trip, with Travel + Leisure touting its chances of “incredible wildlife sightings and breathtaking mountain and lake views.” With its vast number of hiking trails, glaciers, bright blue lakes (hello there, Peyto and Moraine Lake), we aren’t surprised at its inclusion.

“The road from Banff to Jasper is especially beautiful,” the publication stated, and we couldn’t agree more. The Icefields Parkway is an absolute gem, and stopping at the Columbia Icefields and Athabasca Glacier is a must.

When you make it Jasper National Park, be sure to head up to Maligne Lake, which holds a world-famous hidden island you can even stay on. Mount Edith Cavell is also an absolute stunner when the access road to it is open.

Stick around and enjoy stargazing here, too — it’s considered one of the best spots in North America to do so.

While we are on the topic of being touted as some of the best, Alberta is no stranger to the spotlight. Just this spring, two picturesque spots in the province were named the most beautiful in the world.

A small town in Alberta was also named one of the best places to visit in Canada by travel guidebook publisher Lonely Planet earlier this year, too.
