Canadian retailer Aritzia teams up with Sperry for nautical spring fashion

Nostalgia has been ruling in fashion and Aritzia’s latest collaboration is no exception. The Vancouver-based retailer has dropped a new line of boat shoes with Sperry — signalling we should get ready for a nautical-themed spring.
Sperry x Aritzia is an updated take on the classic leather shoe, coming in two styles: the Slim Boat Shoe and the Authentic Original 2-Eye Boat Shoe, which millennials may fondly remember from the summer of 2011.
The slim style is a more feminine, modern take on the design, perhaps taking some style cues from luxury label Miu Miu’s viral boat shoes from a collection last year. The slimmer toe box will make these a dream to style up (think suits and dresses) or down (jeans and shorts).

Both shoes ($120) come in a neutral brown or light brown colourway, as well as suede and leather, keeping things easy to match. The collaboration also sees a move to Aritzia owning its name outside of private labels, with its logo embossed on the tongue.
To mix things up, each pair comes with three different coloured laces — options including light blue, green, and orange and beige, in addition to the signature rawhide laces — to change things up. They’ve really thought of it all, as a re-lacing needle is included in the limited-edition baby blue boxes.
“We are thrilled to partner with Aritzia — a brand renowned for creating elevated essentials. This collaboration allows us to introduce the all-new Slim Boat Shoe alongside our iconic Authentic Original Boat Shoe with Aritzia’s style-forward point of view,” Jonathan Frankel, president of Sperry, said in a release.

The drop comes amongst a wave of nostalgia-influenced drops from the popular women’s retailer: just last month, Aritzia re-released the TNA bowling bag ($128) from the early 2000s to celebrate its 40th anniversary. The logo-heavy accessory was a Y2K classic for Canadian millennials and was available in metallic gold, silver and glossy black for a throwback vibe.
