We all fear dropping our precious technology, and for iPhone users, the image of dropping your phone and enduring any damage is always fear-inducing.
Luckily, the experts at the massive tech company are always hard at work crafting and honing its products, and we got a first-hand look at a durability test lab while at the annual Worldwide Developers Conference in California.
The lab we toured, which is one of about 200 similar labs around the world, puts thousands of iPhones through vigorous tests, involving water, dust, heat, UV light, humidity, pressure, and vibration, among other things.
The team at the lab stated that they collect a lot of data from willing iPhone users to see how the technology is being used, with safety being the first priority, then quality and reliability.
The water and drop tests were two of the ones we winced at the most, with the water test involving a slow drippy rain all the way up to a full-on blast straight to an iPhone. The drop test involved a worker placing an iPhone for a machine arm to grab, twirl a bit, and then drop down on a hard surface.
Numerous types of surfaces are also used in the drop test to apply to day-to-day life, including asphalt and quartz.
