Suspicious fire at seniors home leaves man in life-threatening condition

A retirement facility in Southwest Calgary became the location of what CPS believes to have been a suspicious fire in the early hours of Monday, April 27.

The Calgary Police Service issued a release just a few hours after the 1:25 am incident, stating that the fire had been reported at Wentworth Manor at 5717 14th Avenue SW.

The Calgary Fire Department managed to contain the fire, though one man had to be taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition as a result of the flames and smoke.

“Due to the suspicious nature of the fire, the scene remains under investigation by the Calgary Fire Department Fire Investigator, as well as our Arson Unit and Homicide Unit,” the release states.

CPS also noted that more information will be released to the public regarding the incident once it becomes available.
