The City of Calgary says that all public events are being cancelled until the end of the summer, as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.
The announcement was made on Friday afternoon by Mayor Naheed Nenshi, who says that 166 events have been affected. This includes the city’s annual Canada Day celebration.
Third-party events that were booked on property owned by the City of Calgary are also being cancelled.
The cancellation includes all events up until August 31, 2020.

Friday’s announcement comes just one day after the 2020 Calgary Stampede was cancelled.
Originally scheduled for July 3 to 12, the annual Stampede sees well over one million attendees over the course of the 10-day event, with an average of over 100,000 attendees per day.
