Popular Calgary fried chicken spot closed its doors – here's what we know

A popular Korean fried chicken joint in Calgary has closed down, leaving many speculating about the reasons for its closure.

Seoul Fried Chicken, a popular spot for Korean fried chicken, closed its doors at both its Calgary locations in Mission and the Northeast.

The spot, which originated in Edmonton, opened its first location in Mission two years ago.

While the Mission outpost is listed as temporarily closed on Google, its Beddington location is listed as permanently closed. Both locations have also been removed from the Seoul Fried Chicken website.

Nothing has been shared on Seoul Fried Chicken’s social media accounts regarding the closures.

Calgarians on Facebook shared their observations on the situation, including a notice of termination that was reportedly displayed on the window of the Mission location in late June, outlining issues including a “breach of operating procedures,” “under-reporting of sales,” “outstanding Ongoing License fees,” and the failure to pay the Canada Revenue Agency for substantial amounts owing.

However, it seems like Seoul Fried Chicken may not be gone for good, as new signage has appeared in the window of its Mission outpost, simply with the words “We’ll be back.”

It looks like the restaurant won’t be gone for long, so watch this space.

Dished has reached out to Seoul Fried Chicken for comment, but did not hear back in time for publication.
