Calgary restaurant suddenly closes after less than two years of business

We’re sad to report another Calgary restaurant closure. Rusty’s Roadhouse appears to have quickly and quietly closed its doors, leaving many Calgarians speculating on the reasons behind its departure.
The eatery, which is known for its wide selection of dishes from burgers to blooming onions, seems to have shuttered after less than two years of business. It has been listed as “permanently closed” on Google, and its website and social media accounts have disappeared.
However, the restaurant was still receiving Google Reviews as little as a week ago, with some criticizing an alleged mandatory tipping policy.
“Don’t waste your time coming here cause the service is horrible, food was mediocre for the price and also tipping is apparently mandatory here,” one review reads.
“Came here and had ok food, and alright service. My problem is the waitress coming up to my group and harassing us because the tip was not good enough for her and wanted more,” another added.
Meanwhile, Calgarians on Facebook were also speculating on the circumstances surrounding the restaurant’s seemingly sudden closure.
The neighbourhood spot in Shawnessy, which was previously home to East Side Marios, offered a large menu of comfort food dishes such as ribs, mac and cheese, burgers and handhelds. It was also one of the few places in the city to get hold of a Blooming Onion outside of Stampede time.
Dished has reached out to Rusty’s Roadhouse for comment but did not hear back in time for publication.
