Alberta–B.C. train route named a best thing in the world to do in 2026

A new train route is coming to parts of Alberta and British Columbia in 2026, and it’s already been named one of the best new things to do in the world.
Timeout recently put together a list of the 26 best new things to do in the world, and the Rocky Mountaineer’s new route found itself in sixth place.
The train is launching a new limited-time route in June and July 2026, called Passage to the Peaks. According to the Rocky Mountaineer website, travellers can begin their journey in Banff or Jasper.
There are a total of seven packages to choose from. Travellers can opt for one, five, seven, or nine-night experiences. Passage to the Peaks is the only route on the Rocky Mountaineer that does not visit the West Coast.
The two-day Banff to Jasper route starts at $2,834 and begins in Banff, where you will travel through the mountains to Kamloops for an overnight hotel stay before heading off to Jasper in the morning.

The nine-night experience starts at $6,232 and includes stops and overnight stays in Edmonton, Jasper, Kamloops, Lake Louise, Banff, and Calgary.
Some of the landmarks along the route include Mount Rundle, Castle Mountain, Rogers Pass, Spiral Tunnels, Shuswap Lake, Pyramid Falls, Moose Lake, and Mount Robson.
“Beginning and ending in the iconic mountain towns of Banff and Jasper, this journey is for those who want to immerse themselves in the evergreen forests, sparkling glacial lakes, and towering mountains that define the region.”
The Passage to the Peaks route also made Timeout’s list of most exciting train routes in 2026 earlier this year.
The only other Canadian highlight on the list was checking out the new Time Out Market coming to Vancouver in 2026.
