A new Calgary park that just opened is the first of its kind in Canada
A new park in Calgary has opened to the public, and it’s being touted as having a design unlike any other in the country.
Located in southeast Calgary, the Martin Family Legacy Garden in Southview Park is set to challenge the idea of what a traditional park can be, being labelled as Canada’s first dementia-inclusive park.
The project, which broke ground in May 2025, offers sensory gardens, colourful pathways, a children’s playground, and design features that make the park easy to navigate. Each detail was carefully designed to create a space that can be enjoyed by visitors of different ages and abilities.

Located adjacent to Greater Forest Lawn 55+ Society and Bethany Riverview, the park will allow for a range of programming, building a beacon for Calgarians and creating a sense of belonging for the nearby residents living with dementia.

The Martin Family Legacy Garden is opening on Sept. 21, 2026, which also lands on World Alzheimer Day.
Along with adding this new park to your list of outdoor things to see in Calgary, there are a number of other new and upcoming projects to be excited about.
