Man dies after trying to ride on outside of limo in Calgary: police

A man died of his injuries on Monday morning, after an incident involving a limousine in downtown Calgary on Sunday evening.

According to Calgary police, the incident took place around 7:30 pm, when officers were called to the 1200 block of 11 Avenue SW, for reports of a man suffering serious injuries following an incident involving a limousine.

In a release, police said investigators believe that at the victim had been a passenger in the limousine and had exited the vehicle prior to the incident occurring.

“Shortly after exiting, the man was reported to be attempting to stand on the running board and hold onto the outside of the limousine while it was in motion,” police said. The limousine travelled a short distance down 11 Avenue SW, “before the man fell off near the intersection with 12 Street SW.”

EMS attended the scene and transported the man to hospital in life-threatening condition, and the road remained closed for several hours following the incident.

Speed, alcohol, and drugs on the part of the limousine driver are not believed to have been a factor in this incident, police said.
