Charged have been laid following the death of an infant last April.

The Calgary Police Service has charged 29-year-old Anthony Kurucz, of Calgary, with one count of second-degree murder in connection to the death of his three-month-old son.

The young boy died on Saturday, April 27, 2018 after spending two days in hospital. Police had been called to a home on the 100 block of Atlanta Crescent SE at around 12:30 pm on Thursday, April 25 to help a child in medical distress.

The boy was found unconscious, and though he was rushed to hospital, he would succumb to his injuries.

The Calgary Police Service release notes that the child had been alone with his father, Kurucz, at the time of the incident, and that “the story provided to the medical staff by the child’s father was not consistent with the medical symptoms the child was showing.”

Police now believe that the boy died from “injuries that were not accidental,” following a complex investigation.

Kurucz was charged as a result of the investigation and is expected to appear in court on Monday.

Anyone with information on the ongoing case is asked to contact the Calgary Police Service at 403-428-8877, or anonymously through Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477 or by visiting their website.
