Calgary Flames' Dustin Wolf gets stampede shoutout from Shania Twain

Calgary Flames goaltender Dustin Wolf just got a shoutout from country music royalty.

The Calgary Stampede has taken over the city over the past week and a bit, and Wolf was out and about enjoying the festivities this past weekend. While doing so, the 24-year-old Wolf decided to pose for a photo beside the rodeo grounds wearing a Shania Twain shirt that said “Let’s Go Girls” with a chuckwagon in the background.

A fan found the photo and shared it to X, where it caught Twain’s eye and prompted the Canadian icon to shout out the Flames goalie.

“He’s the cutest!” Twain said of the photo.

That is no small praise from the best-selling female country artist of all time. Twain, born in Windsor, Ontario, has sold over 100 million records since her debut back in 1993 and remains one of the genre’s most recognizable voices. It’s fitting that she had an eye on the Stampede, which doubles as a massive country music festival along with its usual rodeo festivities.

Shania headlined the 2025 festivities with a sold-out show at the Scotiabank Saddledome on July 5.

It’s not the first time that Shania has crossed over into hockey. During the 2024 Stanley Cup Final, she performed outside of Rogers Place before an Edmonton Oilers game and then hyped up the team in the dressing room as well.

Wolf will be hoping for a similar kind of interaction as a member of the Flames over the next few years. The California native had an excellent rookie season in Calgary, posting a 29-16-8 record and a .910 save percentage. He nearly got the Flames into the playoffs despite expectations that they would be a lottery team.

Wolf wasn’t the only Flames player having fun at the Stampede, as teammates Ryan Lomberg and Brayden Pachal tried out some of the midway’s more interesting food options last week.
