Calgary Flames' Kadri comments on Maple Leafs trade rumours

Calgary Flames forward Nazem Kadri has no problem admitting he’s seen the many trade rumours involving himself as of late.
There has been chatter, albeit on more of a fandom level, that Kadri could be dealt by the Flames, who aren’t viewed as a Stanley Cup contender at this time. Many teams would love to land the 34-year-old, though most the speculation as of late has linked him to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Kadri spent the first 561 games of his career in a Leafs sweater, during which time he scored 161 goals and 357 points. While he seems quite content in Calgary and has full control over his immediate future with a no-movement clause, he acknowledged in an appearance on the Knight Shift podcast that he’s aware of the chatter going on.
“It’s happened quite often over the last couple months,” Kadri said when asked about his name surfacing. “It’s a little bit bizarre scrolling around and seeing your face pop up and your name pop up. Obviously the rumour mill is pretty strong, especially around these parts. A lot of times the rumours can catch some fire and the fire turns into bigger fires.
“There’s not a whole lot in terms of sports right now. I think it’s definitely a topic to talk about. Why not talk about it?”

Kadri has four more seasons remaining on his contract which carries a $7 million cap hit. The Leafs would likely be able to make such a trade work, as they have north of $5 million in cap space due in large part to the departure of Mitch Marner.
One thing that is for certain, however, is that the Flames wouldn’t even consider moving Kadri unless they had a very big return coming their way.
