‘Tis the season of Calgary Stampede Midway food reviews, and this year, some pretty special critics head to the grounds to try out some of the dishes.
In a video, Calgary Flames players Ryan Lomberg and Brayden Pachal hit the Midway to rate the food on offer, from brand-new additions to returning favourites.
First up, the pair got their hands on a Stampede classic, the pickle fries, which prompted a very unique reaction from Pachal.
“At first glance, they kind of look like Grinch fingers,” he joked before taking a bite.
“Tastes more like a fry than a pickle,” Lomberg added, giving the pickle fries a respectable serve out of 10.
“I’ve got to give it a 10 because it fits the brand,” Pachal said.

Next, the pair head to Covet Sips & Sweets for drinks, both picking up the refillable Cowboy Boot cups. While Lomberg fittingly got the Flames, a dirty soda with Sprite, blood orange, cherry, strawberry, and watermelon, Pachal went for Covet’s Fiery Dill Pickle Coke, a Stampede special this year.
“Flavour-packed. A lot going on,” Pachal said of his choice.
“This one’s not bad. With the heat outside, it’s refreshing,” Lomberg added.
Lastly, it’s not a visit to the Stampede without some sweet treats, and the pair opted for a trio of deep-fried goodness, featuring Oreos, cookie dough, and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.
The Oreos received a firm 10 out of 10, while Pachal gave the deep-fried cookie dough a highly specific rating of 9.4.
“Can’t go wrong with deep-fried dessert,” Pachal added.
If you want to try out Pachal and Lomberg’s orders, the Calgary Stampede Midway will be serving up hundreds of treats until Sunday, July 13.
