The official day of Chinese New Year falls on Friday, February 16 this year.
The Year of the Dog was last observed in 2006, and is also known as the Chinese Lunar Wuxu Year.
The event is open to people of all ages and cultural backgrounds, and is free to attend – though you may need to bring some change for nearby parking, as they’re paid lots.
According to a release from the Calgary Chinese Cultural Centre, this year’s festival market will be the most colourful that Calgary has ever seen.
