Movie in the Park 2019

What: This Friday, September 6, the Sunalta Community Association will be screening the live-action remake of Aladdin for all in attendance. A post on the screening’s Facebook event encourages would-be viewers to bring a blanket to lounge on while enjoying the newest reimagining of Aladdin and Jasmine’s romantic story. And, yes, there will be mini doughnuts available at the park.

What’s up with Bow Habitat Station

What: Explore Alberta’s wildlife and natural spaces on the first Friday of the month. Visit investigation stations in the Discovery Centre, then join the group activity with special guests from Alberta Parks at 10:30 am, 11:30 am, 1:30 pm, or 2:30 pm and discover how wildlife has adapted to city life. Calgary Wildlife Rehabilitation Society will also be hosting an investigation station about furry and feathered friends found in the city. Note: hands-on activities are designed for learners two-years-old and up.

When: The first Friday of every month – September 6, October 4, November 1, December 6, 2019

ULTRA Night Run 2019

What: ULTRA Night Run, hosted by The Running Room and Michelob ULTRA, is a mix of exercising, partying, and a lot of socializing. You don’t need to be a fitness fanatic to take part because you can choose between a 5 km or 10 km race (or walk, if that’s your jam) on the illuminated, neon-lit course kicking off from Edworthy Park. There will be live music to keep you motivated along the way while you take in mesmerizing night views of the Bow River.

Fall at Calgary Farmyard

What: There are many events to enjoy this fall at Calgary Farmyard, including an 11-acre corn maze, petting zoo, playground, and more. Plus there are Flashlight Nights in the Maze every Friday and Saturday starting September 20, and a Pumpkin Festival every Saturday and Sunday starting October 5.

The Prairie Girls Vintage Market

What: A gathering of like-minded curators of vintage, antique, farmhouse, salvaged, re-purposed, and handmade goods. Food trucks and entertainment will refuel you for a second trip around the barn.

When: September 6 and 7, 2019
Time: 4 to 7 pm (Friday), 9 am to 4 pm (Saturday)

Calgary Produce Marketing Association Fall Harvest Sale

What: The Calgary Produce Marketing Association’s annual Fall Harvest Sale is a two-day charitable event that raises money for the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation, Community Kitchen Program, and the Heritage Park Society. Purchase healthy food, discover the benefits of eating fresh fruit and vegetables, and support the local community. Carry-out service is available for a small fee, which is donated to a local charity.

When: September 7 and 8, 2019
Time: 10 am to 5 pm (Opening Ceremony at 9:30 am on Saturday)

Admission: Regular admission to the park. Annual pass holders receive complimentary admission. Harvest Sale purchases are cash-only, but there are a number of ATMs available throughout Heritage Park

Monster Jam

What: See Grave Digger, Monster Mutt, and many other Monster Jam trucks compete in a variety of challenges.

What: Dalhousie Community Association’s annual Show & Shine features classic cars and vehicles, children activities, BBQ, raffle and more. The event benefits Enviros Wilderness School Association. Registration starts at 9 am at a cost of $10 per vehicle. All makes and models welcome.

The Blue Jay Cafe

What: Every night until September 7, the Southern-style pop-up will host two sets of country singers who will perform in songwriter circle sessions. Artists slated to perform include Desiree Dorian, Drew Gregory, and Sons of Daughters, according to the pop-up’s event page.

If you get hungry while listening to these music performances, audience members can order from the menu, which includes a fried Empire Provisions bologna sandwich, a fried chicken sandwich with Kool-Aid pickles, and a Goo Goo Cluster pie — a mix of marshmallow nougat, milk chocolate, caramel, and peanuts.

Puppies and Prosecco

What: Attend a private group training class for you and your pup on the patio of Vin Room Mission, led by the Dogma Behaviour & Education Centre. You will receive two glasses of wine, beer or prosecco, lesson on the patio for you and your furry friend, and a bag of goodies worth $50. $5 from each ticket sold will be donated to Pawsitive Match Rescue Foundation.

Monthly Open House at AVRO Museum
