Calgary's Scotia Place gets advertising makeover as construction progresses
Excitement is building for Scotia Place in Calgary.
Construction on the new 18,400-seat arena has been progressing smoothly this summer, and it’s finally starting to look like a legitimate NHL stadium. While the new home of the Calgary Flames won’t be ready until the start of the 2027-28 season, it seems that anticipation for the eventual opening date is starting to ramp up.
FlamesNation’s Ryan Pike recently shared photos of the construction site that revealed a brand-new set of advertisements around the arena hyping up the progress being made.
“We’re in the middle of a line change. Home ice coming soon,” one of the advertisements read.

Construction on the new arena first broke ground over two years ago, and things seem to have gone smoothly ever since. The expectation is that Calgary’s new arena will be among the very best in the NHL when it opens, with commissioner Gary Bettman calling it a “first-class, state-of-the-art” building earlier this year.
The arena itself is expected to cost $800 million, with the construction of a new community rink adding $52.8 million to the budget. The entire building’s cost is expected to be $926.4 million when it’s all said and done.
The City of Calgary will provide $515.3 million of those funds, while Calgary Sports and Entertainment will contribute $356 million. The Province of Alberta is chipping in $55.1 million for the new rink.
With Scotia Place’s imminent arrival, that means the celebration of the iconic Saddledome’s final season is set to get underway. All of the Flames, the AHL’s Calgary Wranglers, the WHL’s Calgary Hitmen, and the NLL’s Calgary Roughnecks will play out their last season in the Saddledome this year before making the move to Scotia Place.
The Flames revealed a commemorative logo to mark the final season at the ‘Dome, which will be worn on their jerseys and feature as the centre-ice logo this upcoming season.

The final NHL regular season game scheduled at the Saddledome is set for April 10 against the Vancouver Canucks.
