A large Calgary park is getting a major makeover this spring

Richmond Green Park is gearing up for a major makeover this spring, as phase two of its redesign kicks off.
Phase two of the project, which includes construction, is set to begin this spring, according to the City of Calgary. The development will introduce multiple upgrades for park-goers.
Some of the new amenities include new pathway upgrades, a 13-hole disc golf course and practice area, a playground, a picnic area, stormwater management, parking lot upgrades, a cricket batting cage, and dedicated pickleball courts.
The City has also released the final park design. “The updated park design was shaped by community feedback, site constraints, park planning principles, budget, technical feasibility and growing recreation needs to deliver: High-quality amenities, improved accessibility, and increased natural space,” the website states.

The redevelopment of Richmond Green Park began after the closure of the former golf course in 2019. Since then, portions of the park have been repurposed, including the conversion of the former golf course into a temporary disc golf course, and a 5.5-acre parcel of land was sold in 2024 to fund improvements.
Major steps of the project have been in the works since the spring of 2025, when detailed design concepts and feasibility studies were completed. Spring 2025 also included phase one of construction when the City’s former Operations Workplace Centre was demolished, opening up an additional 10 acres of land to the park.
After phase two is completed, there will be a phase three of construction, which is set to take place in 2027, bringing biking amenities to the park.
Richmond Green Park isn’t the only Calgary park set for some upgrades soon. Haskayne Legacy Park is also kicking off construction.
