Calgary named a popular travel destination for Canadians this winter

Calgary just ranked among popular domestic winter travel destinations for Canadians, according to the latest winter travel outlook from Expedia.
The winter travel outlook highlights popular and trending destinations based on lodging searches, as well as the best times to fly and stay in accommodations.
Calgary came in eighth place among the popular domestic winter destinations. Toronto took the top spot, followed by Vancouver in second and Montreal in third.
Three of the 10 destinations on the list are in Alberta, with Banff coming in fifth place and Edmonton trailing behind Calgary in ninth place. Other destinations on the list include Quebec City, Niagara Falls, Whistler, and Ottawa.
Prince Edward Island took the top spot for trending domestic destinations, followed by Jasper and Kitchener.Â

Expedia
As for flying, Expedia released the slowest and cheapest days to fly this winter. Feb. 24 and 26, 2026, came in as the slowest days to fly domestically, while Dec. 4 and 5 are the cheapest. On the other hand, the most expensive days to fly are Jan. 1 and 2, and the busiest days are Dec. 20 and 24.
It also revealed the slowest and cheapest times to stay in accommodations. The slowest days came in as Feb. 9 and 24, while Dec. 5 and 26 are the busiest. Jan. 6 and 13 are considered the cheapest, while Dec. 30 and Feb. 28 are the most expensive.
The data comes from searches made on Expedia between July 28 and Nov. 2, 2025, for travel between Dec. 1, 2025 and Feb. 28, 2026.Â
The report also noted that Canadians are trading snow for sand this winter, with destinations like Cancun, Punta Cana, and Puerto Vallarta ranking high in its popular international winter destinations.
Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, was the top trending international destination for Canadians this winter, driven by its interest in winter sports.Â
