
Lots of Alberta’s ski hills have opened for the season, and luckily, some aren’t too far from Calgary. Whether you’re looking for a quick day trip, family-friendly runs, or big mountain terrain, there are plenty of options to choose from within a two-hour drive.
From hills and resorts for beginners to advanced skiers, these mountains each offer a variety of features. Here are the best ski hills less than two hours away from Calgary.
Sunshine Village Ski Resort

Located just over an hour and a half from Calgary, Sunshine Village is one of the most popular ski destinations in the Rockies. Known for its excellent runs, ranging from advanced to beginner, it’s a great choice for skiers of all levels. It also has one of the longest ski seasons in Canada.
When: Sunshine Village is open for the season; 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Nakiska Ski Area

Nakiska Ski Area is just over an hour from Calgary, making it one of the closest and most convenient mountains for a ski day. Located in Kananaskis, Nakiska offers wide, well-groomed runs and a dedicated learning area. It’s the perfect spot for beginner and intermediate skiers and snowboarders.

Mount Norquay

An hour and a half from Calgary, you can find Mount Norquay. It’s a smaller, family-friendly ski hill located just minutes from downtown Banff. Not only does it offer skiing and snowboarding, but it’s also home to the longest tube runs in Alberta.
When: Mount Norquay is open for the season. Tubing opens on Dec. 20, 2025.

Winsport

Lake Louise Ski Resort
