The Calgary International Airport has a shiny new accolade to boast about, and it has to do with being the fastest in the entire country.

No, YYC did not acquire a superjet that can travel at light speed, but the airport did receive some recognition for having the light-speed equivalent in wifi connectivity, the fastest in Canada, in fact.

A report from Ookla shows that Calgary’s WiFi connectivity is the top of the line when looking at major Canadian airports, and it also takes the bronze medal when looking at airports throughout all of North America.

The only two cities that beat out Calgary in the download and upload speed tests were Denver, Colorado and Seattle, Washington, the latter having faster speeds than anywhere else by far.

Getting a little technical, the report found that the download speed at YYC cruised along at a 67.23 mbps, while the upload speed was at 87.99 mbps.

For reference, Seattle’s stats were 103 mbps and 155.93 mbps, respectively, and the second fastest airport in Canada, Vancouver International Airport, came in at just 50.11 mbps and 72.19 mbps.

Looks like that’s just one more thing for Calgarians to be proud of!
