6 ways to scare yourself silly in Calgary this Halloween weekend
While we’ve all been facing fears in a not-so-fun way all throughout 2020, this Halloween weekend presents the rare opportunity to spook ourselves in an enjoyable way.
From goosebumps-giving ghost tours to frightfully harrowing haunted houses, there are plenty of ways to get a good fright this Halloween:

Train of Terror 2020
Alberta’s Aspen Crossing Railway company is taking fear to a new level this Halloween with its annual Train of Terror.
The “scariest train haunt in Canada” is an interactive, hour-and-a-half-long experience, featuring haunted railway cars and disturbing entertainment.
A beautiful fall train tour turns nasty as victims participants will make their way through two haunts: one on the train, and one at the station prior to boarding.
Where: Aspen Crossing — Highway #24, Mossleigh, Alberta
When: Fridays and Saturdays, as well as select Thursdays and Sundays later in the month. The full schedule can be found here

Field of Screams 2020
For October 16, 17, 23, 24, 30, and 31, Cobb’s Corn Maze will feature six different haunted houses and a long list of spooky activities.
There’ll be blacklight mini golf, archery tag, a kangaroo petting zoo, giant puzzles, a tractor ride, pedal carts, and a bonfire.
When: Weekends from October 5 to 31
Time: 6 to 10 pm, tickets will be fore specific time slots

Calgary Heritage Ghost Tours
There’s nothing quite like getting scared silly at a haunted house, or feeling the chill beneath your skin when you learn that the very building you stand in is haunted by the ghosts of lost souls — which is why going on a ghost tour is a staple for this, the spookiest of months.
Luckily enough for Calgarians, there are plenty of ghastly tales to be told about locations all throughout the city, and those daring enough to tell them.
A schedule of planned tours can be found at the group’s website, and anyone who goes along for the journey will be led by an appropriately dressed (AKA all black, cape and all) tour guide holding a lantern to guide the way.

Calgary Scare Wash 2020
B!G ART has organized a Scare Wash for the spooky season, which will see participants enjoy a live, in-person, in-vehicle horror show — followed by a complimentary car wash, though just for the exterior of the vehicle.
Tickets for the Scare Wash go for $49 per carload, and are available for Thursday, October 29, Friday, October 30, and Saturday, October 31 — though as of October 1 there are only tickets remaining for Halloween day.

Screamfest 2020
Screamfest, one of Canada’s largest and scariest Halloween events, is back in Calgary this October.
Even coronavirus isn’t scary enough to stop the popular event, which has enacted public health measures to ensure that the only thing attendees will need to be frightened about is the ghosts and ghouls within their haunted houses.
Ticket-holders will enjoy six different haunted houses, with everything from clowns to zombies to Grim Reapers attempting to scare them silly as they make their way through the outdoor mazes.
When: Thursday, October 22 to Sunday October 25, and Thursday, October 29 to Saturday, October 31
Time: 7 pm to midnight

Haunted Calgary’s Drive-In Halloween Experience
Haunted Calgary has announced their plans to host a drive-in Halloween experience at New Horizon Mall in lieu of their usual walk-through haunted houses.
The drive-in format allows for a serious scare while staying safe within a vehicle.
The experience will see cars drive up to a designated spot, were those inside will then be privy to a private show featuring actors playing out one of four different storylines — only one of which is family-friendly.
